Performance Criteria
| Main Purpose (Role): |
| The Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, testing, fault diagnosis and repair of low and medium voltage electrical equipment, installations and distribution systems across the operation. The role ensures the safe, reliable and efficient supply and use of electrical power by maximising equipment availability, minimising downtime and ensuring compliance with engineering standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures. |
| Key Performance Area’s (Responsibilities): |
| Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electric motors, starters, contactors, control panels, switchgear, distribution boards, transformers and protection systems.Carry out planned electrical maintenance, testing and inspection, including insulation resistance, earth continuity, earth leakage and protection relay function testing.Install, terminate, test and maintain LV and MV cables, glands, junction boxes, lighting circuits, socket outlets and small power installations.Diagnose and rectify electrical faults on plant and equipment, restoring supply safely and addressing the root cause of recurring failures.Carry out safe isolation, earthing and switching in accordance with the permit-to-work, isolation and lock-out/tag-out procedures.Support planned maintenance shutdowns, equipment overhauls, and the installation and commissioning of new or repaired electrical equipment.Maintain accurate maintenance records, test results, inspection records, drawings mark-ups and shift handover documentation.Identify electrical defects, equipment abnormalities and safety hazards, and report them promptly to the Supervisor.Personal CapabilitiesProblem-Solving and Analytical Skills, Decision-Making Ability, Good Listening Skills, Strong Verbal Communication, Stress- and Time-Management Skill, Team Player. |
Qualifications
| Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, OR Technician Part III Certificate (Electrical) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in mining, heavy industrial or process plant operations. | Essential / Advantageous Essential |
| MINCOM certification, electrical safety and switching authorisation, permit-to-work system training, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) training, working at heights training and first aid certification are highly desirable. | Essential |
| Technical Competencies Advanced proficiency in low and medium voltage electrical systems, including electric motors, motor control centres, starters, switchgear, transformers, distribution boards, protection systems, cabling and terminations, lighting and small power. Demonstrated competence in electrical fault diagnosis, electrical testing and inspection, safe isolation and switching, preventive and breakdown maintenance, and safe maintenance practices within a mining environment. |
