Instrumentation Trainer (City & Guilds Level 5)

Key Responsibilities

1. Training Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and deliver advanced training in instrumentation systems, automation, control engineering, PLCs, SCADA, industrial sensors, transmitters, calibration systems, valves, HART/Fieldbus protocols, and industrial safety.
  • Facilitate Level 1 to Level 5 competency-based training aligned with City & Guilds, ISA, IEC 60079, NFPA, OSHA, and ISO 45001/9001 frameworks.
  • Supervise theoretical lessons, workshop practicals, simulation exercises, and plant-based assessments.

2. Curriculum & Materials Development

  • Develop and update syllabi, lesson plans, training manuals, PowerPoints, practical guides, and assessment tools.
  • Ensure all training content meets City & Guilds Level 5 standards and international requirements.
  • Customize curriculum for mining, oil & gas, and heavy industrial clients.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Oversee training quality and ensure compliance with City & Guilds IVQ / 2850 frameworks, ISO 21001, MPTI IMS (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001), external audits and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate training records, portfolios, and competency logs.

4. Trainer Mentorship & Departmental Supervision

  • Mentor junior trainers and support professional development.
  • Supervise training schedules, daily delivery, workshop readiness, and learner discipline.
  • Provide technical leadership during practical projects, assessments, and plant simulations.

5. Industry Collaboration & Practical Exposure

  • Coordinate industry-based learning visits, plant familiarization, and live demonstrations.
  • Work with partner companies to align training outcomes with operational requirements.

Academic & Professional Qualifications

  • Minimum City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Instrumentation, Process Automation, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BTech/BSc) in a relevant engineering discipline is an advantage.
  • Recognized certifications such as ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), CompEx / IECEx certification for hazardous areas, OSHA/NEBOSH/IOSH safety certifications (added advantage), Industry calibration certification (e.g., Fluke, Beamex).

Experience

  • Minimum 5–8 years industrial experience in instrumentation, automation, or process control.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in teaching, training, or competency development, preferably in a technical or vocational institution.
  • Proven experience working in mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, or heavy process industries.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong practical capability in PLCs (Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Schneider), Control loop tuning & industrial automation, Calibration of sensors and transmitters, HART/Fieldbus communication, SCADA fundamentals, Instrument troubleshooting & maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of international codes & standards, including IEC, ISA, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, ISO, Ghana Minerals Commission & GSA standards.
